2 out of 5 new restaurants in the EUG –
For date night last week we decided to try Taco Loco in downtown. I can’t believe this place has been there as long as it has and we have never gone! A friend posted some pics a few days earlier of their drinks and outdoor eating area, and I knew we had to go. While located on one of the busiest streets in Eugene, once inside the garden oasis, you would never know it, it feels like an escape into a tranquil park with all the fountains and plants.
The food & drinks were reasonably priced and we got HUGE portions!
Yummy blackberry patron margarita
1 out of 5 new restaurants in the EUG –
I put this on our bucket list because we are always saying that we wanna try new places to eat as Eugene is actually a pretty big foodie town, but we never do!
The other day the hubby & I met for lunch at a local hotspot we had never been to – Hot Mama’s Wings, every time we have tried to go it was PACKED with college kids. We both LOVE buffalo wings and have been wanting to try this place forever. We of course had to try the traditional buffalo style wings and we also tried the cilantro lime chili, but there were so many choices and we will def. be going back to try some of the others including the spiced maple bacon, chipotle bourbon and asian honey. They also have chicken friend bacon as an appetizer that I hear is to die for – next time!
A few of our other fav hot wing spots are BWW, Chicken Bonz and Fire on the Mountain in Portland, OR.
#45 TV show marathon –
Ok, well I guess part of this whole thing means I have to update you guys once in awhile! Life has just been so busy!
We finally got to have a TV marathon! We used to have them all the time in college, but ever since, we seem to never find the time. By TV marathon I mean get totally engrossed in a show and watch it every waking hour that we aren’t at work until finished… in college we would stay up all night doing this with the first couple seasons of Dexter, and we did it with all the seasons of LOST on Netflix as we were late “Losties.”
The show we (or he) picked was…. Firefly, we also just finished the movie, Serenity! Now, he had watched it way back when and LOVESSSS it & Serenity. I have never ever so much as thought about watching it, because in general I am not a Sci-Fi fan. But, this past Feb. we attended the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle and listened to Summer Glau and Adam Baldwin talk about it all, and it sounded worth a shot, plus the hubby was just so damn excited I was willing to give it a shot. I wound up lovinggggggg it… yes you can start the nerd jokes, I don’t care – plus Joss Whedon is just a genius! I am so sad it got cancelled halfway through and I know a lot of other people are too, I bet if they re-booted it today, there would be enough fans! Oh, and did I mention the hubby bought a Jane hat at Comic Con… now he gets nerd jokes too!
#59 Eat at Track Town Pizza –
Again with the how the hell have I lived in this town 20+ years and never been to certain staples of the Eugene culture…. like TRACK TOWN PIZZA?
I really have no idea especially since I am a UO grad and spent every waking hour on campus for about 4 years!
The husband gave me such a hard time about this one, and being a die-hard duck I was kind of appalled at myself for have never eating there && they have such good pizza and an amazing environment of duck memorabilia && a classic historical duck menu!
Sunny skies & campus ❤
Those of you who follow the Olympics and our track history will understand the menu!
It was also neat because we usually eat at the same ol’ places for date nights, and while we have our favorites, it is good to try new things too!
#14 Attend my 1st Country Fair (OCF) –
I was born in Portland, but grew up in Eugene but either way I am a true Oregonian who had never been to the famous annual Country Fair. Hundreds of people from all over the world head to Veneta for this weekend event every July. So how have I never been to this event that happens every year in my own town? Well as a kid my parents never took me and in college, I just never had the time. My husband actually grew up going to it as one of his best friend’s family runs a burrito both there and has for several decades now, so he has actually spent the whole weekend working there when he was in high school. With the exception of the heat and smell, I loved it! It was like a fairytale and so unique. Around every corner there was just so much to take in. I was amazed at how much work goes into this 3day event and how many people live for it. While it may not depict my daily lifestyle, there are so many things to love about the uniqueness of it all, and the colors… so pretty! I even managed to sport my hippie tie dye Oregon shirt!
We also got to see some friends that we don’t see enough, and Shaun was even put to work like old times in their burrito stand! Overall, it was a great day & I’m glad I got to experience it!
Such a dreamworld in the midst of a forest 🙂
Loved all the art
Good day! ❤
#94 & #73 Go to a batting cage & have an 80s/90s movie/game night –
I love baseball, and grew up playing softball but had never been to a batting cage so the hubby & I decided to be kids for the day! We found out that Kick City has cages, and that they are cheaper than the other place in the area. We both loved it and had such a great time, plus we managed to have the area to ourselves! After, Shaun kept saying we need to do that more often, that was fun, I haven’t been since I was a kid….. I love doing this together we both love!
Baseball, ❤ and sun!
After, we decided to cross another item off the list with an 80s/9os movie/game night. Little did we know this would also be a trip down memory lane! We of course had to go gather all the essential snacks for our night. It was super fun running around the store trying to remember back to all the good ol’ snacks from back in the day. Here is what we managed to come up with and we could have gotten a ton more, but this seemed like a lot of candy/drinks for 2 people already, but it was just so fun to have all this stuff again!
All set for an 80s night in!
We have tons of 80s/90s movies that surprisingly I have never seen, and it is Shaun’s goal to get me to see them all. He was quite appalled when I said I had never watched all of Top Gun, but yet we own it, so Top Gun it was… what a great movie! After Top Gun, we played a heated round of Sorry! The only things missing were the original Squeeze-Its, which were discontinued in the 2000s, and War Heads, which are still around, but we were running out of time and we had enough snacks!
Like I said, it was so neat to take a trip down memory lane, as a kid, Pop Rocks and such were a staple of every school field trip and every sleepover and it was fun to re-create these memories with the hubby.
Between the batting cages and this, it was a great day being kids again!
#5 Go on our 1st cruise –
For years we have been wanting to go on a cruise and this year we finally had the chance. Technically it was for my mom’s birthday in May, but she wanted to wait until better weather and we had a business trip in May. While Shaun and I do have dreams of cruising to Mexico and the Bahamas, our Alaskan cruise was amazing and the sights/excursions were great, I would recommend that everyone make it to Alaska one day, it is pure beauty like you have never seen everywhere you look.
Bye Bye Seattle
Although cold at times, it was still a great vacation – this is on our balcony, if you ever cruise upgrade upgrade upgrade, it is worth every penny!
The sunsets are breathtaking
Cruising the Tracy Arm Fjord… most beautiful place I’ve ever been!
So many icebergs!
Up close to a glacier in the Fjord.. the colors amaze me!
The food/desserts lived up to the hype!
Loved dressing up every night!
More amazing sunsets
Gorgeous night skies
Skagway – super cute town in the middle of the mountains
Also where we took our best & most expensive excursion – we got to canoe to the face of a glacier and play in the ice
Again with the colors
We also went to the beach at Glacier Point
& had a yummy picnic with a view, prepared for us by the locals
& saw WHALES! It was amazing to be close to these massive creatures!
so many amazing waterfalls flowing into the ocean
Togass National Park… largest National Park – again playing in the glaciers and hiking to a beautiful waterfall
We also saw tons and tons of bald eagles!
We did have some sunny/warm days too!
Loved seeing Buchart Gardens again, a magical place!
Some other highlights included:
Formal nights ❤
Vegas style shows
& of course gambling and drinking
Overall we had an amazing trip and experience so many things we never dreamed of getting to do. Every night we had to sit back and try and take in everything we had just done. It was also amazing to really immerse ourselves in the culture and history of Alaska and we hope to go back soon. We both love nature, and so for us this was an amazing experience!
