#45 TV show marathon –
Ok, well I guess part of this whole thing means I have to update you guys once in awhile! Life has just been so busy!
We finally got to have a TV marathon! We used to have them all the time in college, but ever since, we seem to never find the time. By TV marathon I mean get totally engrossed in a show and watch it every waking hour that we aren’t at work until finished… in college we would stay up all night doing this with the first couple seasons of Dexter, and we did it with all the seasons of LOST on Netflix as we were late “Losties.”
The show we (or he) picked was…. Firefly, we also just finished the movie, Serenity! Now, he had watched it way back when and LOVESSSS it & Serenity. I have never ever so much as thought about watching it, because in general I am not a Sci-Fi fan. But, this past Feb. we attended the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle and listened to Summer Glau and Adam Baldwin talk about it all, and it sounded worth a shot, plus the hubby was just so damn excited I was willing to give it a shot. I wound up lovinggggggg it… yes you can start the nerd jokes, I don’t care – plus Joss Whedon is just a genius! I am so sad it got cancelled halfway through and I know a lot of other people are too, I bet if they re-booted it today, there would be enough fans! Oh, and did I mention the hubby bought a Jane hat at Comic Con… now he gets nerd jokes too!
So as I mentioned in previous blogs, we have a new addiction –
We didn’t get into it right away and then we were both too busy to start it, we finally have some time. We are on season 1 and so into it. We are TV show fanatics, some of our other addictions include:
-Rules of Engagement
-Big Bang Theory
-King of Queens
-Two & a Half Men

On Wednesday, Oct. 13th, Sony/Google released the new Google TV. It is an internet-enable TV that allows you to surf the net and add things, while watching your TV shows. It also allows for Hulu, YouTube, Pandora, Netflix, sports stuff, blogs and Twitter to be brought directly to your TV.
“Sony’s new Internet HDTVs, unveiled earlier today at a press event in New York City, sport 1080p edge-lit LED screens, with the exception of the 24-inch model. They come with four USB ports, four HDMI inputs and Wi-Fi capabilities. They are available in four sizes: 24-inch, 32-inch, 40-inch and 46-inch. The 24-inch model rings in at $599, while the 46-inch will cost you $1,399.” – Mashable article
I presented this topic in my J460 class, and the assignment was to come up with a few questions to ask the class….
1- Are we ready for this? The fact that older generations are still trying to learn the internet, and the ones who can use this technology are still at a point where their parents would have to buy it for them… is any parent really going to spend this $$ for a TV that they don’t understand? Is it going to worsen the digital divide considering many people don’t yet even have computers with internet?
2- What does all this mean for cable companies and networks? Will people now just fully use Hulu, ect?
3- What are the advantages/disadvantages to this technology?
My opinion is somewhat varied, while I think it is a great technology and will be useful, I am not sure it is worth it when I can sit on my iphone, ipad and laptop and do the same things while watching TV. But what I do think is cool is that you can be watching a sports event and have the live internet chats, stats and feeds going on in the same screen. It def. is something that targets the Net Gen…. it adds to the already heavily discussed topic of the Net Gen kids (ages 11-30) and the Next Gen (0-10) brains being re-wired to multi-task and function on dif. levels of those of the previous generations. It would be overwhelming to say my parents, but to me it looks user-friendly and isn’t something I don’t do already.
At first I thought it might be too early (Net gen/Next gen kids do not have the money for this yet, and I certainly know that when I was a kid my parents would have not put this tech. in our living room because it is too advanced for them, and they certainly wouldn’t have gotten it for my room.) BUT… as was pointed out in my class, they are right on sched. in marketing this, because a majority of the Net geners are graduating college and starting their careers, and want the newest technologies.
I am very excited to see where this goes, and as far as the cable companies and networks, I think they will be fine. Google has already made it a point to have it integrated with existing cable and DVRs.
I have missed a few days due to the starting of a new term and a busy work schedule… but I am back on track!
Sheldon: Why are you crying?
Penny: Because I’m stupid!
Sheldon: That’s no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad.
I just LOVE big bang theory! I watch it nightly in bed before I go to sleep. We have all the seasons and love it. I am secretly in love with Sheldon!
Well as I mentioned in my previous blog, one of my goals is to start cooking more. Tonight after I got home from work, I made pork chops cooked with gravy, onions, garlic, carrots and cabbage in the electric skillet, mashed potatoes and gravy. This is one of Shaun’s favorite, oh and did I mention he helped by peeling the potatoes and stirring the gravy. We ate dinner while watching the season finale we had dvr’d of BIG BROTHER 12…. a show we are absolutely addicted to. I started watching with season 5, and got shaun hooked on at season 8. Since season 8, we have watched every show together every year. It is our dream for one of us to be on it… but that is just a dream. This year’s winner was Hayden, I wanted Brittany to win, but for those watching I do have to give it up to the Brigade. I had a soft spot for Rachel there for awhile, but that laugh…. oh god not to mention while she was a strong competitor, she was pretty bitchy. I just hope Hayden doesn’t give any of that money to Kristin…. her and Annie where the worst!!!
Now we are watching more of Big Bang season 3, seriously if you are reading this blog and have not watched Big Bang …. GIVE IT A TRY! I have never laughed so hard watching a TV show in my life, and I feel healthier for watching it.. because laughter is the best medicine right?
This brings me to … I cannot wait for Fall TV to start… there are so many great shows coming back on and a few new ones that look great too. Here are a few of my favs;

Big Bang Season 3 came out today on DVD!!! We for some reason, even though it is one of our favorite shows, did not watch it on TV this past season, so we have been waiting to see it for awhile. We are both now parked on the sofa under blankets watching one of the best comedies ever!
And I just have to say Leonard and Penny are too cute! I love it when hotties pick nerdy guys! They are sweet too!
We are only on episode 3 but one of the best quotes so far…
Wolowitz: They’re called tattoo sleeves… Put them on, have freaky sex with some freaky girl with her business pierced, take them off, and I can still be buried in a Jewish cemetary.
&& Sheldon: Interesting… sex works even better than chocolate to modify behavior.. I wonder if anyone else has stumbled across that yet.
I am a huge Sex and the City fan and watch the shows weekly (I have them all of course on DVD) and I watch the movie often and cannot wait for the sequel to come out Oct. 25th!
“Maybe mistakes are what make our fate… without them what would shape our lives? Maybe if we had never veered off course we wouldn’t fall in love, have babies, or be who we are. After all, things change, so do cities, people come into your life and they go. But it’s comforting to know that the ones you love are always in your heart… and if you’re very lucky, a plane ride away” -Sex and the City
