Quote for the day…

This is one of my quotes to live by…

“When you come to a roadblock, take a detour.” – Mary Kay Ash

Straightforward and to the point. I am really sick of hearing about people who are down in the dumps and let life get them down, or let one little setback keep them down. IT IS LIFE… no one said it was going to be smooth… part of life and being a strong person is trying to come up with ways to rise above and beyond what life throws at you!!

Ice Cream Social fun!

Every year, the School of Journalism puts on an ice cream social during the 1st week of fall term. I am a student worker in the advising office as well so my luck is that I am always scheduled to work at the desk during it, but for the past 2 years my bosses have graciously let me go out and participate too! This year we had great ice cream with lots of toppings. It is so fun to see the faculty, new students and us seniors all interacting! There was raffle drawings with great SOJC prizes (waterbottles, tshirts and mugs). We also played a great trivia game that was timed and my friend and I won 1st place by rushing around Allen Hall finding answers to the questions.. I had a small advantage in that I work here and interact with faculty on a daily basis, so I took 2nd place price which was great actually because I already have the 1st place prize. So now I have an SOJC waterbottle canteen, a mug and an American Apparel brand shirt with our SOJC logo on it! There were tables for all the student-run publications and activities and that was also a great networking opportunity. Overall a huge success thanks to our great SOJC faculty, staff and students!

I have a habit of constantly reading things people write, or listening to what they are saying and in my head I am mentally correcting them. In some cases I even stop listening or reading because they sound so ignorant. I get it we are all human, we make mistakes and even I do it…. but the things some people say and write… OMG! Word usage people, learn how to say things properly! I really want this book, I think I would enjoy reading it! Seriously I see signs all the time with poor grammar, or I hear business people say something wrong… it makes you look ignorant and therefore less credible! Ok I am done ranting! 😉

Quote for the day…

This is from an article for my J460 class… I love this!

“We’ll interact with advertising where once we only watched; we’ll seek out advertising where once we avoided it. Advertising will not go away; it will be rejuvenated.” – Michael Schrage, Ad Age Columnist

As an ad student and a lover of advertising and the creative process, this is a great quote and I am very excited to be a part of the future of advertising. Lots of new ideas will be born and we will are getting to shape the future of advertising and media!

Why yes I am holiday looking already!

So I love the holidays! Halloween-New Years… I love the feeling, decorating, family, cooking and shopping! I have already started my fall decorations and will be adding in Halloween stuff here soon. Every year I look for stuff to add to our collection…. I found this great website that has a ton of cute holiday decor, and is all made from rustic & recycled stuff! I am planning on ordering a couple things, and then using the ideas and going to the craft store and making a few things as well! I just can’t wait for the holidays!

Some of my favorite holiday things are; pumpkin carving, the pumpkin patch, holiday coffee drinks @ starbucks, hot cocoa, scarves, boots, layers, leaves, the feeling in the air, holiday music, the mall during the holidays, sales, shopping, holiday food and candy, baked goods, festival of the tress, baking and snuggling up on those cold days with great movies and TV with my hubby!

Back to crazy!

Fall term 2010 is underway… after a crazy first 2 days back, I am finding a few minutes to blog. Part of the reason why things are so crazy for me is that I not only attend classes, but I work at the Office of Advising in Allen Hall… so work has been crazy, stressful and I am constantly on-the-go. I have 4 400level J classes, and they all seem really interesting, fun and full of work! This is my senior year and I am a Dean’s List student and want to stay that way so I am going to put my social life on hold and FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS this year. I already have tons of reading and assignments and I am not going to let myself slack or put things for classes on the back burner. 😉

Quote for the day…

I have missed a few days due to the starting of a new term and a busy work schedule… but I am back on track!

Sheldon: Why are you crying?
Penny: Because I’m stupid!
Sheldon: That’s no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad.

I just LOVE big bang theory! I watch it nightly in bed before I go to sleep. We have all the seasons and love it. I am secretly in love with Sheldon!

exhaustion, excitement, nervous.. oh boy!

This weekend was emotional, draining, fun, exciting and many more things. It started when I got off work Friday and finally had money to go get my hair done for fall. I went to my usual hairdresser, Allison at Just Hair, and like always I love it. We decided to switch it up from the usual blonde or brown, or streaks and so I went purple/red brown and a new cute cut with layers! I LOVE IT! After that my bestie of 10 years called me to come over and drink and hangout. Welllllll lets just say I had a little too much to drink and spent the next 24+ hours sick and then hungover as hell. (no fun and def. not happening for a long long time if ever again). After literally lying around all day yesterday, I was finally able to come out to the living room and watch the DUCKS beat ASU, but it was a stressful game and I was so sore and sick, it took a lot out of me. The refs were making bad calls, and ASU players were undoubtedly using “injuries” to slow the speed of us down. After a long game full of mistakes, we managed to leave AZ with a win of 42-31, making us 4-0 and #4 in the NATION!!! Next week we face Stanford (YIKES), but we face them at Autzen and that gives us the advantage. Our crowd can make or break a game, and all the students are back, plus ESPN Gameday has picked our game to be at, which gets the crowd even more amped up. Autzen will be a rocking && Eugene will be crazyyyy! Gameday chose us over Alabama and Florida & Texas and OU.. so I feel pretty special! I LOVE MY DUCKS!!

As I am still recovering from drinking a wee bit too much…. I threw stew in the crockpot for tonight and leftovers for this upcoming BUSY BUSY week, which brings me to nervousness… while I am always excited to start a new term, and am excited for classes this week… it is my senior year and I know it is not going to be an easy one. I have gotten used to just working and no homework, and having my weekends free and clear… football season and homework on the weekends just is hard to balance, but I did it last fall and pulled a 3.7 and I am sure I can do it again! Tonight at 9pm is the season 5 premiere of…… DEXTER! We have been waiting and waiting to see how, well I won’t ruin it for those who haven’t watched the end of 4… but OMG it was a cliff hanger. If you haven’t watched season 4 all the way through… get on that!

Off I go to get things ready for classes tomorrow… eek! But overall I am excited for this term and I have a feeling I am going to LOVE all my classes. I am finally done with all gen ed. and am only taking J classes until I graduate in JUNE! This term I am taking a public relations writing class, a class on our consumer culture, a class on advertising management and a class on design in the media! They are all 400level journalism classes, so I know I will have my work cut out for me, and oh did I mention all my teachers are awesome! 😉

too cute!

I love this site, and can’t wait to have kids! I def. am in to the high-end baby look and am going to be very picky in how i dress our kids and how i decorate the rooms!

I ran across this totally cute lunchbag… i love owls! I wonder if i could get away with it? hmmm…. why didn’t we have cute stuff when i was in grade school? We got weird stripes and flowers.
